It takes courage to arrive at the decision that seeing a counsellor may be helpful to you and with that decision comes the challenge of finding the right one, I appreciate this isn’t easy. You may be feeling anxious and worried that you won’t know what to say or how to say it; many people feel like this at first and often find this eases after just one session. I recommend an initial one off session to put you at ease and for us both to be sure I’m the best therapist for you.

 I am an accredited  member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists) and work under their professional, ethical framework. I work with individuals and couples in a gentle, client led way, offering long and short term work with a psychodynamic approach; by this I mean as well as discussing current problems we may explore the influence of the past on your present day thoughts, beliefs, feelings and behaviours and discuss how these may be impacting on your life today and explore alternatives if you choose to do so. I will support you in working at your own pace with empathy and understanding as the therapeutic relationship is an important part of our work.

I also use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing). This is a treatment approved by both NICE and the World Health Organisation. It can help resolve PTSD and unresolved memories that are still triggering us and affecting our life today. It does this by helping us to desensitise to the memory and in doing so it then enables the brain to reprocess it.

I also offer clinical supervision; working alongside trainee therapists in placement and with experienced therapists. Having benefitted enormously from excellent supervision over the years I realise how crucial finding the right fit is with your supervisor. I feel I can offer the most to psychodynamic therapists but equally feel of benefit to other therapists. An initial meeting is crucial to understand fully the supervisory needs and to establish if both supervisor and supervisee are right together. If this is agreed then I recommend a 3 session trial.
